Low anterior resection (LAR) LAR is a surgery thats done to treat rectal cancer. During LAR surgery, the part of your rectum with the cancer will be removed. The remaining part of your rectum will be reconnected to your colon.

How long does it take to recover from anterior resection?

You should avoid lifting anything heavy and any strenuous activity for the first 6 weeks of recovery. It can take a few months before you begin feeling “normal” again. Any pain can be managed with over the counter pain killers.
